How do Caribbean cultural traditions shape the educational and life aspirations of Carib-British* boys – positively or negatively?
THE EDITOR’S CHAIR is proud to announce a panel discussion for honest dialogue on the cultural influences that shape British Caribbean boys’ lives in the UK. (Link below)
Drawing on the themes discussed in the book The Carib-British Male: Understanding His Culture, Community, and Continuing Cycle of Underachievement by Robert Aymer, the panel will reflect on:
· Identity – How do cultural traditions and narratives shape self-perception and aspiration?
· Parenting & Discipline – What lessons do our sayings, silences, and inherited parenting styles teach boys about manhood, respect, and success?
· Community & Advocacy – Is there a recognisable Caribbean community in Britain today, and how does it support or fail young men?
· Education – Why do disproportionate exclusions and underachievement persist, and what role can parents, schools, churches, and communities play in changing outcomes?
· The Way Forward – What culturally grounded solutions, role models, and support systems are needed to enable Black boys to thrive?
